This project addresses a critical gap in Boston's street safety efforts: the lack of data on traffic violations and compliant behavior. This open, publicly accessible dataset gives local politicians, city planners, advocates, and residents the factual data they need to make informed decisions on street safety.
Currently focused on the intersection of West Broadway and Dorchester Avenue in South Boston — a high-conflict site shaped by dangerous design, ongoing bike lane tensions, and heavy multi-modal transit activity including the MBTA Red Line and multiple bus stops.
While rooted in a single intersection, the findings carry citywide relevance. Patterns uncovered here can drive safer street design, stronger policy, and more targeted safety interventions across Boston.
